Countdown to Kindergarten Tips

As your child approaches the beginning of kindergarten, we know you might have questions about how to practice get ready for school with them.

Here are some tips so they’re ready on the first day of school!

What is Road to Reading?

We want Denver to be a city where all children can reach their full potential. Research tells us that children who do not read well by the end of third grade are four times more likely to leave school without a diploma than those who do, as third grade is when children transition from learning to read, to reading to hear. But reading doesn’t start in school it starts at birth and in the early years of life when a child’s brain grows the most and many factors support the growth of language and literacy. As a result, it will take strong partnerships between Denver Public Schools, the City and County of Denver, and a large number of community partners, funders, parents, and caregivers to support Denver’s children.

The Road to Reading is a city-wide partnership of nonprofits, governmental agencies, and other organizations who are coming together to improve support and education for Denver’s children from birth to age 8.  The Road to Reading partnership supports and encourages collaboration between organizations to continue developing and expanding the services they provide.
